“When you go home, tell them of us and say: for their tomorrow we gave our today.”

The Tower of London honours our fallen heroes. #Armistice100

  1. One day all this will be over.
The war to end all wars will be won
by one side or the other.
The guns will rust. Grass will grow
and they’ll be nothing left of any of this.
The land will heal itself, as everything does in the end.
We’ll be long gone by then
    but maybe not forgotten.
History only remembers one in a thousand of us
then the future will be filled with stories of who we were and what we did.
How we lived, how we fought, how we died.
When this is all over and the war is won
    they will remember us.
But until that day comes, we will stand, we will look death in the eye
    and we will fight!

  2. Around 10,000 flames were lit to create this moving tribute, called Beyond The Deepening Shadow. It was designed by Tom Piper, the same artist behind the famous poppy installation in 2014.

  3. if you get the chance, watch a documentary by Michael Palin, The Last Day of World War I. It will break your heart. The Armistice was signed at 5 am, but fighting didn’t cease until 11 am. His story is about the thousands of soldiers that died in those 6 hours, for the romantic Victorian sense of symmetry, the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It will break your heart.
