Former UN secretary-general Kofi Annan has died at the age of 80.

He was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work in 2001 and in his speech he reflected on the UN’s aims.

  1. Sir please help us the wrath of mother nature has affected our homeland. The incessant rains triggered by the South West Monsoon have caused havoc in the Northern and Central regions of the State of Kerala, South India. Almost half of Kerala is reeling under Floods. Landslides, a resultant of the torrential rains, pose a new threat to the communities living in the hilly terrain. Till date, 25 landslides have been reported in Kerala and 21 such incidents are from Idukki District. Due to continuous rains, there is a steady inflow of waters in all the water reservoirs, reaching its maximum capacity. The Government has opened 22 reservoirs on Thursday and this has caused sudden flooding in Districts of Kerala. The worst affected Districts are Palakkad, Ernakulum, Alappuzha, Idukki,Pathanamthitta,Thrissur Wayanad and Kozhikode. Several Lakhs of people are dislocated at present staying in Public Buildings such as Schools, Government Offices and Marriage Halls. The roads and the communication facilities are totally disrupted. In many places, the electricity poles are washed away and the people are forced to stay indoors. There is acute shortage of safe drinking water, food, health facility and shelter.

  2. I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the family of Kofi Annan for their loss although he spent his entire life serving Western imperial interests in Africa. R.I.Pieces.

Sometimes one wishes that some people never die. For example, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Joshua, our Lord Jesus Christ, Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela, My mother. Now Kofi Annan. Our Kofi Annan has joined them. The lives of these people have no equals. Their exit to the great beyond stirs up pains – soft pain and hard pain. Pain is pain! Each moment you remember, you wished, wish and keep wishing there would be a reversal. But non and never. Their bodies have gone back to earth. Their souls have left and spirits too. Only their memories remain. Their legacy flashes. Though their legacies remain, their lovely human faces are absent. So it’s never the same and will never be the same again. This is beyond human making otherwise with human power we would stop it. To keep wishing they never die is an impossible equation. Rather we are left to live and remember them by the legacies they left for us the living. Death! They are my Beloveth! (Obioma Ajaonu)
